SPRINGFIELD, Missouri 鈥�聽91精品 and partnered for the 聽second annual Valor Volunteer Day on Friday, April 21 on Evangel鈥檚 campus. In just over one hour, approximately 440 Evangel students, faculty, and staff packed 5,000 individual grocery bags, which included peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, Clif Bars, and other nonperishable food items.
The event was co-hosted by EU鈥檚 CROSSwalk student ministries group and the聽Center for Compassion, which offers a聽Humanitarian Relief & Development degree聽and promotes a theology of compassion through community engagement and its degree program.
“Valor Volunteer Day brings an opportunity to engage in compassion right on to our campus,鈥� said Melissa Pulis, Center for Compassion associate director. 鈥淚t gives the Evangel community an easily accessible opportunity to do good together as a family.鈥�
Of the 5,000 bags, 1,200 will be distributed by the University of Alabama through an upcoming event. The remaining 3,800 will be distributed to families in need through the Springfield Dream Center by Evangel students serving in the Center for Compassion鈥檚 summer externship program.
